National Convention Proposal

Thus far I have seen in the forum these choices that people have proposed (alphabetical order by area name). They are listed: LOCATION NAME, STATE, POSSIBLE LOCATION(s)

1. Ann Arbor, Michigan- University of Michigan
2. Chicago, Illinois- University of Illinois at Chicago
3. Cleveland, Ohio-
4. Columbia, Missouri- University of Missouri
5. Columbus, Ohio-
6. Denver, Colorado- American Indian Movement Lodge
7. Madison, Wisconsin-
8. New Orleans, Louisiana-
9. New York, New York- Columbia University
10. Seattle, Washington-
11. Washington, District of Columbia-

When I looked through each of the pages of the forum, these are the proposed locations I found. I think it is important that if there are any further suggestions that we try to make them happen soon so that we can start thinking about them.

Second issue I have seen while putting this list together. One three locations have proposed convention sites, and only more is a possibility and not just an idea (from what I got from how people worded their proposals- the American Indian Movement Lodge).

I think that anyone who proposed a city or area should work with the chapters (or members of their chapter) to attempt to find several locations that might work for the convention. For example: I am from New York City. I don’t think we can vote for a location if we don’t have a brief description of the area, cost of food, cost of housing, possible convention sites, etc.

So here is what I propose:

1. Any further location possibilities are submitted very soon.
2. People who proposed locations write a brief description of the location
3. People who proposed locations work with local chapters or the members of their chapter to find possible convention sites. Chapters then write a little about that proposed site, cost, capacity of the site, housing, etc. Basically tell the organisation why you think it’s the best place to have the convention. The pros, the cons. Et cetera…
4. We then compile of list of proposals. We contact each chapter. Have votes in each chapter (or online – which ever we think would work better).
5. We start planning the convention (Cost, Site location, booking the location, deciding what we want to do at the convention, housing, press, logistics, et cetera…)
